What's in a Name?
When you think of our company as having been around since 1919, it has always been known as "Town Talk." As simple as that may be, the legal entity (full use) of the name appears as "Town Talk Mfg. Co." Meanwhile, for marketing and branding purposes, we are known as "Town Talk Headwear." This may be confusing, as we have 3 common names that we use in regards to our company. This may seem like a marketing disaster, but we can now divulge just how it all happened.
We spend a lot of effort and resources as a company trying our best to get our name out there in the public and to compete with others in the industry, and we all work together as a team to promote ONE steady name. Having several versions of a name can sometimes become confusing and nealry break apart our collective efforts. But we don't let it interfere.
So, let's clear it up and simplify!
"Town Talk Headwear" - We always use this name to our customers, in marketing/creative/design ads, and social media. "Where do you work?" "Town Talk Headwear." This is the name you will mostly hear, in regards to our company's title.
Although we do offer more than just caps, caps are predominantly what we offer. Gas stations offer hundreds of products. But they are still gas stations. We offer towels, polo t-shirts, and hope to continue to grow and expand our catalog, but we will always be known for our high-quality, innovative caps. Hence, "Town Talk Headwear." Only our quality hat, itself has a chance to outlast our name!
"Town Talk Mfg. Co.," - The actual legal use of the name. Official legal documents, and mainly office use. We never refer to ourselves to our customers or audience as such. This is strictly for legal purposes. Our legal name is Town Talk Manufacturing Company.
Because unlike many of our competitors, we actually manufacture, in-house! That's right! Right here in good ole' Louisville, KY. "My Old Kentucky Home" is both the headquarters and original location that the very first cap was ever produced for Town Talk Headwear. We love our city and are proud to be a part of our loving community, which ranks as one of the most supportive cities for local and small businesses. That's why you will often see the state border of Kentucky and a Fleur De Lis icon in the signature of some of our ads.
"Town Talk," (minus the "Headwear")- Some of our most loyal customers, closest friends, and most of us around the office simply refer to ourselves as "Town Talk." It can be a tad bit redundant and even at times, exaggerated to refer to the name of our company in long form.
So, it's acceptable and welcomed to simply refer to us as "Good ole' Town Talk," when speaking to one of us, or when we speak to each other as a team, close family, etc. We consider it a warm and inviting greeting, and we promise not to take any offense if you want to call us that. We know who we are, the quality that we offer, and it's okay if you want to keep it short.
So, "Town Talk," for short, "Town Talk Mfg. Co." is for legal use only. And when we are talking about our company to anyone other than lawyers, accountants, and close family, we refer to our company by it's actual name - "Town Talk Headwear," - as it appears on all of our print materials, ads, social media, and common uses. Exciting, I know!
The Evolution of our Logo (in short)...
Former Logo (circa 1970)
Alternate Logo (circa 1980)
In 2014, we wanted to modernize the logo to go along with our new print and web materials in a re-branding effort. We began thinking of this day as a new "Town Talk," in a sense. We were going to move forward with a new approach, and lead a new example to show our competitors, our clients, and ourselves that we can do better. After presenting six different concepts, it was decided to keep the heritage of the TT's and progress with a re-energized logo.
Current Logo (2014)
Town Talk Headwear's name and logo history are deeply rooted with the quality and success of the business model that has existed for nearly 100 years. With recent efforts taking us into the realm of social media and an online presence, we strive forward into our second centennial!
